EDWARDSVILLE — Doc’s Smokehouse has been named National Barbeque News’ Best of the Best barbeque restaurants in America.
Doc’s Smokehouse is one of 28 on the list in the nation and the first and only in the St. Louis metro area with this distinction. This currently serves as one of the restaurant’s most notable awards.
“This was great to hear since it isn’t submission based we didn’t know until we were awarded. This is the currently the best award to receive in barbeque,” Doc Richardson, owner of Doc’s Smokehouse, said.
To be eligible for the list, a restaurant must be taste-tested, without notice or announcement, by an affiliate of the National Barbecue News, multiple times throughout the year. The honor may be held for one year then must be tested again.
Richardson grew up smoking various meats with his father and started to compete in 2005 in the Kansas City BBQ Society where over the years, won multiple state championships and over 300 awards in both competition and catering.
It is the competition style of smoking that keeps Richardson on the lookout for the next best thing for his catering and restaurant.
“We make everything by hand, our sauces, rubs and meat are made and smoked in house every day. We are always looking to stay consistent with our taste, but always a consistently improved taste. In this business if you become complacent, you lose,” Richardson said.
Doc’s Smokehouse has been in business since 2014 and Richardson pride’s himself and his business’s success on the loyalty of its costumers. He commented on the recent opening of Sugarfire. (Read More On The Intelligencer’s Website)
